Mahalaya Amavasai
Mahalaya Amavasya marks the culmination of the Pitru Paksha, a period dedicated to ancestor worship. It is observed on the new moon day and is considered highly significant for performing tarpanam (ritual offerings) to departed souls. It is observed by offering and prayers to ancestors, often near rivers or sacred spaces. It is believed that during this time, ancestral spirits descend to receive offerings from their descendants and reinforces the belief that honoring ancestors ensures harmony.
