History of the place

In Thretha Yuga, Bali - the son of king Meganathan helped the demons Mali, Malyavan and Sumali to fight against the Devasand others sought the help of Bali to fight against the devas. Bali won, but was afflicted with Brahmmahathi dosha. He came to this place for relief and performed penance on Lord Perumal. Perumal appeared before Bali and granted darshan in Varaha Rupa . Sage Kuni and his daughter wanted to reach Sorga (Paradise). As Kuni's daughter was not married, Kuni alone reached Sorga. Maharishi Naradha asked other sages to marry Kuni's daughter. One Kalava Maharishi married her and got 360 female children. He prayed to Lord to marry his daughters. The Lord came as a brahmmachari (bachelor) and was ready to marry Kalava Maharishi's daughters one each day. On the last day, He showed He was Narayana in Varaha form. He fused all the daughters into one and had them on His left lap. (left in Tamil is Idam) this place is known as Thiruvidavendhai which later changed as Thiruvidandhai.

Mangalasaasanam (hymns) by Thirumangai Azhwar and Manavala Mamunigal. This is the 63rd temple in the list of 108 divya desams.

Temple History, Speciality, Miracle and Greatness

Of the 108 Divya Desams of Lord Vishnu, this is the only temple, which conducts the Wedding festival throughout the year. The Lord is in standing form facing east under the Kalyana Vimanam. Sage Markandeya worshipped this Perumal. There is a dot on the cheek of the Lord which is considered as a protection from others jealousy. As the Mother fused the 360 virgins, she is praised as Akhilavalli Nachiar. Mother in Her separate shrine is worshipped as Komalavalli. Lord Perumal in the temple apeears with one foot on earth, the other on the heads of Adhisesha and his wife and having Akhilavalli Thayar on His left lap and graces as Lord Varaha Murthy.

Pariharam

People pray here to drive away the evil looks (dhrushti dosha), adverse aspects of serpent planets Rahu and Kethu. Those facing delays in marriage pray here specifically. Women facing delays in their wedding are advised to pray to Mother in the temple.
