History of the place

Lord Vishnu did penance here to get Shiva's form. As promised by Lord Shiva, Vishnu gets the Shiva Swaroopam as Odha Urugeeswarar (form of Shiva) when Ganan Sambandar sings hymns here. As Lord Shiva sat down and listened keenly to the hymns of Gnana Sambandhar, the temple gets its name "Uttru Ketta Muthesar".

Temple History, Speciality, Miracle and Greatness

The Lord Shiva is Swayambu murthi facing west. As the Lord faces West (Merku in Tamil), hence called Metraleeswarar.There are separate sanctum sanctorums for Thirumettraleeswarar and Odhaurugeeswarar. In Odhaurugeeswarar's sanctum sanctorum, we can see both the Lingam and the feet of Lord Vishnu. 100 Rudras, Seekandar, Veerbadrar, Krodhar and Manalathipathis all totalling 116 have worshipiing this Lord.
