History of the place

As per purana, the eight sons of Brahma did penance here to get Saarupya status but by mistake they asked for Saayutsaya status. So two eagles for every 4 yugas eat sweet rice at noon time. When saint Markandeya wanted to perform abisheka there, the Lord created a Conchfor him to perform pooja. There are 12 theerthas around this hill. The Mother is also in Swayambu form here.

Thirugnana Sambandhar, Appar, Sundarar and Manicka Vasagar. This temple is the 261st devara sthalam.

Temple History, Speciality, Miracle and Greatness

The Lord is Swayambu murthi and there is no Nandi before the Lord. It is a hill temple with 565 steps. The Vedas are the hills here. Sundarar got gold from the Lord. Crores are saints and siddhars got salvation. Saint Pattinaththar worshipped here. The Pushpakara Mela is celebrated once in 12 years on Jupiter transition day. A conch is born in the theertha once in 12 years. As two eagles visit the temple everyday to accept the sweet rice offered to them, hence the name Thiru Kazhu (eagle) Kundram (hill). It is believed that Lord Indira still worships this Lord.

Mental illness, intense Asthma, blood pressure are also cured because of the air with herbal effects.

Pariharam Procedure

Mentally retarded persons stay here for 48 days, bathe in the theertha, pray the Lord and are fully cured. Devotees do abishek, aaradhans and annadanams.

Festival Period

10 days Chithirai festival, Aadi Pooram 10 days festival for Goddess, Full moon days, New moon days, Pradosham, Tamil and English New year days. Girivalam is done on full moon days.
